Sjögren’s Syndrome

Sjögren’s Syndrome ("SHOH-grins") is a disease in which the immune system attacks the glands that produce moisture for the body, such as saliva and tears. The damage prevents the kidneys from functioning the way they should and can make your eyes and mouth dry. The disease can cause fatigue and pain in the joints, and in rare cases, affect the lungs, kidneys and nerves. Anyone can get Sjögren's, but it's most common in white women who are in their 40s and 50s.
